Aliko Dangote becomes first African to Attain $30bn Networth

Aliko Dangote, Africa's wealthiest individual, has reached a net worth of $30 billion as of October 23, 2025, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

This significant milestone caps a strong year for the Nigerian magnate, whose fortune has swelled by $2.16 billion since the start of the year.

Just days before hitting the mark, Dangote's net worth stood at $29.8 billion. A recent surge saw a $430 million valuation gain help push him over the edge.

The impressive financial rise aligns with the continued expansion of the Dangote Group's industrial empire, notably the completion of a major cement plant in Côte d’Ivoire.

Located in Attingué, about 30 km north of Abidjan, the $160 million facility spans 50 hectares and boasts an annual capacity of three million metric tonnes. This makes it one of Dangote Cement's largest operations outside of Nigeria. 

Dangote’s recent ascent follows a period of significant fluctuation in his wealth. In October 2023, shortly after the commissioning of his massive oil refinery, Bloomberg ranked him as the world's 81st richest person with a net worth of $20.4 billion.

His fortune saw a dramatic rebound after briefly losing the title of Africa's richest person to South African billionaire Johann Rupert at the start of 2024. At that time, Rupert boasted $10.3 billion compared to Dangote’s $9.5 billion. 

However, Dangote quickly reclaimed the top spot. By late January 2024, his net worth had surpassed $20 billion, fueled by a $+282 million valuation jump and a year-to-date gain of $6.91 billion, setting the stage for his current $30 billion achievement.

Chicago drill rapper Devonsha Collier, known as THF Bayzoo and an associate of Lil Durk, was fatally shot this past weekend in Little Village, Chicago, authorities said. Collier, 35, was struck around 3 p.m. Saturday on the 3100 block of South St. Louis Avenue. Two other men, ages 39 and 42, were also injured. Collier was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and pronounced dead early Sunday. Police have ruled the case a homicide. No suspects were in custody as of Monday. Video allegedly showing the attack surfaced on social media shortly after the shooting. Collier was previously acquitted in a 2009 murder case after being arrested in 2014 at rapper Lil Durk’s Orland Park home. He was found not guilty in 2017. Share this story

Lagos Socialite, Pretty Mike Arrested by NDLEA over Drug Themed Party

" The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has detained popular Lagos socialite and nightclub proprietor, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, known as Pretty Mike, following a raid on his Victoria Island establishment where a suspected drug-themed party was taking place. The operation targeted Proxy Nightclub at 7 Akin Adesola Street in the early hours of Sunday, October 26th. According to an NDLEA statement by its Director, Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the agency had received intelligence about the nature of the event and sent undercover operatives into the venue from 11 pm on Saturday. Nigerian Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka on Tuesday disclosed that the United States has revoked his visa, effectively barring him from entering the country for the time being.
