U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday said he has directed the Pentagon to prepare plans for potential military action in Nigeria, escalating his claims that the Nigerian government is not doing enough to curb the persecution of Christians in the country. Nigerian Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka on Tuesday disclosed that the United States has revoked his visa, effectively barring him from entering the country for the time being. Speaking during a media session at Kongi’s Harvest Gallery in Freedom Park, Lagos, Soyinka said he was shocked by the development, stressing that he was unaware of any action that could have triggered the decision. “I felt it necessary to call this conference so those in the United States expecting me for engagements don't waste their time,” he said. “I have no visa; I am banned, obviously, from the United States. And if you want to see me, you know where to find me.” Soyinka previously held permanent residency in the U.S., but relinquished his green card in 2016 in protest against the election of former President Donald Trump.   R&B singer, R. Kelly, on Wednesday, was sentenced to 30 years in prison. This follows his conviction last year on federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges. Kelly is accused of using his fame to ensnare victims he sexually abused. Prosecutors had asked the judge to sentence the 55-year-old to more than 25 years behind bars, while his defense attorneys asked for 10 or fewer, saying prosecutors’ request was “tantamount to a life sentence.” Last September, a jury convicted Kelly on nine counts, including one charge of racketeering and eight counts of violations of the Mann Act, a sex trafficking law.

Millions of women in the US will lose the constitutional right to abortion, after the Supreme Court overturned its 50-year-old Roe v Wade decision. The judgement paves the way for individual states to ban the procedure. Half are expected to introduce new restrictions or bans. Thirteen have already passed so-called trigger laws to automatically outlaw abortion. President Joe Biden described it as "a tragic error" and urged states to enact laws to allow the procedure.
