UPDATE: Burkina Faso moves the 11 detained Nigerian Soldiers into isolated detention

Burkina Faso has reportedly transferred 11 detained Nigerian soldiers to isolated detention amid ongoing diplomatic tensions. Sources say the Nigerian government has yet to formally convince the ruling military junta that a Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft at the centre of the dispute was en route to Portugal. Burkina Faso Confirms Detention of 11 Nigerian Military Officers, Seizure of Air Force Aircraft [WATCH]

Burkina Faso ’s military government has confirmed the detention of 11 Nigerian military personnel and the seizure of a Nigerian Air Force cargo aircraft that entered the country’s airspace without authorisation before making an emergency landing. In a statement issued late Monday, the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) said the C-130 aircraft was compelled to land on December 8, 2025, in Bobo-Dioulasso following an in-flight emergency. The bloc said the aircraft, which belonged to the Nigerian Air Force, had flown over Burkinabe territory without the required clearance. The AES comprises Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali, all currently governed by military regimes. ___________________________ ___________________________ Authorities said the plane was carrying two crew members and nine passengers, all of whom were later identified as Nigerian military officers. World   renowned boxer Anthony Joshua was involved in a road accident earlier today in Makun, Ogun State. Eyewitnesses say the incident occurred around 11 a.m. on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, near Danco Filling Station, before the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound lane. Joshua was traveling in a Lexus SUV, registration number KRD 850 HN, which reportedly collided with a stationary truck. USA Announces Visa Suspension for Nigerians, Effective January 1, 2026

The United States has announced a partial suspension of the issuance of certain visas to Nigerian nationals, effective from January 1, 2026, following a new presidential proclamation on border and national security. In a statement issued on Monday, the US Mission in Nigeria said the restriction will take effect at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on January 1, 2026, in line with Presidential Proclamation 10998, titled “Restricting and Limiting the Entry of Foreign Nationals to Protect the Security of the United States.” Nigeria is among 19 countries affected by the measure. Others listed include Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, Cuba, Dominica, Gabon, The Gambia, Malawi, Mauritania, Senegal, Tanzania, Togo, Tonga, Venezuela, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Thieves Drill into German Bank Vault, Steal €30m in Cash & Gold in Massive Christmas Heist

German police have launched an intensive manhunt after one of the largest bank heists in Germany’s recent history, in which thieves drilled into the underground vault of a Sparkasse savings bank in Gelsenkirchen and stole cash, gold and jewellery estimated at about €30 million . The carefully planned robbery occurred over the Christmas holiday in the Buer district of Gelsenkirchen, western Germany. Investigators believe the suspects took advantage of the prolonged holiday closure to access the vault unnoticed. Police said the gang drilled through a thick concrete wall to enter the basement vault, where they systematically forced open thousands of customer safe deposit boxes and removed valuables worth tens of millions of euros. Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo _____ The Federal Government has declared Thursday, December 25 , and Friday, December 26, 2025 , as public holidays to mark Christmas Day and Boxing Day .  It also announced Thursday, January 1, 2026 , as a public holiday for the New Year celebrations. The announcement was conveyed in a statement on Monday by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajayi , on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo . The Lagos State Government with the approval of the state Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu has cancelled the 2025 Greater Lagos Fiesta, the annual end-of-year celebration that traditionally ushers residents into the New Year with music, fireworks and large public gatherings. The cancellation was confirmed on Tuesday by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Gboyega Akosile. According to the statement, the decision was taken with the governor’s approval, barely a day before the event was scheduled to hold on December 31. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar & Released Airforce Crew _____ Nigeria has secured the release of 11 Nigerian Air Force pilots and crew members, along with their military aircraft, following high-level diplomatic talks with authorities in Burkina Faso. A Nigerian delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, met with Burkina Faso’s military leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, in Ouagadougou on Wednesday, conveying a message of solidarity from President Bola Tinubu. In a statement, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, confirmed that the pilots and crew were released on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. The personnel and their aircraft had been detained by Burkina Faso’s military authoritie s after the jet made what Nigeria described as an emergency landing due to technical issues while en route to Portugal.

Nigerian content creator and streamer Carter Efe , whose real name is Oderhohwo Efe , has been suspended from the popular streaming platform Twitch . The suspension comes shortly after Efe emerged as Africa’s most-followed Twitch streamer, a milestone achieved following a high profile livestream featuring Afrobeats star Davido.
