Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan Currently Trapped in Guinea-Bissau after Coup

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan is reportedly stranded in Guinea-Bissau after a group of military officers announced a takeover of the government. Jonathan , who was in the country as part of an international election observation mission, is among hundreds of foreign observers unable to depart following Sunday’s general elections. The results were expected to be officially declared before the coup announcement halted the process. According to Daily Trust, many observers who rushed to the airport after news of the takeover broke were unable to leave, as the situation quickly deteriorated. The coup leaders, identifying themselves as the “High Military Command for the Restoration of Order,” declared “total control” of the country on Wednesday.  The move came a day after the two leading candidates, incumbent President Umaro Sissoco Embaló and opposition contender Fernando Dias each declared victory despite the electoral commission not yet releasing official ...

Uganda Shuts Down Internet as President Museveni seeks to extend 40 year rule

Uganda has been plunged into a nationwide digital blackout on Tuesday evening as the government ordered internet service providers to sever connections just two days before a pivotal general election. The formal directive from the Uganda Communications Commission cited the need to curb misinformation, electoral fraud, and potential incitement to violence as justifications for the shutdown.  While government officials privately confirmed the order to AFP, the administration has avoided making a public announcement, reportedly to distance itself from the controversial decision. The trial of Nigerian internet punter Benjamin Best , popularly known as Killaboi , is set to commence today, Thursday, January 15, 2025. ___________________ RELATED : K!llaboi & Austa: The Billionaire Punter, The Model, and the M8rder That Shook Social Media! ___________________ Mrs. Cordelia Okonye, mother of the late Augusta Onuwabhagbe, confirmed the development in a post on her social media page, stating that the matter would be heard at the High Court, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos. Best is accused of killing 21-year-old Onuwabhagbe, a student of Lead City University, at his residence located at No. 24a Abiola Apooyi Street, Oral Estate in Ajah, Lagos, in July 2023. He reportedly fled the country shortly after the incident and was declared wanted by Nigerian authorities. Court grants former AGF Malami, Wife & Son 1.5 Billion Naira Bail

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday granted bail to the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abdulaziz Malami , his wife, and his son. Each defendant was admitted to bail in the sum of ₦500 million, accompanied by stringent conditions intended to ensure their appearance for trial. The court's decision follows Malami’s period in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), where he has been held since December 8. His detention followed a reported failure to satisfy administrative bail terms previously established by the commission. In his ruling, Justice Nwite mandated that each defendant must provide two sureties in like sum. These sureties are required to be owners of landed property within the high-brow Abuja neighborhoods of Asokoro, Maitama, or Gwarinpa. Arsenal have signed centre forward Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP for a €63.5million (£54.8m, $74.2m) fixed upfront fee plus €10m (£8.6m, $11.7m) in add-ons. The 27-year-old has signed a five-year contract at the Emirates. A high court has remanded 52 students of Ambrose Alli University (AAU) , following a protest against local insecurity that turned violent in Ekpoma, Edo State. The demonstration was initially organized by residents to decry a recent surge in killings and kidnappings. However, the situation escalated as mobs looted commercial shops and vandalized the ancestral palace of the Onojie of Ekpoma. _______________________ _______________________ While police moved in to restore order, several students claimed they were caught in a dragnet.
