U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday said he has directed the Pentagon to prepare plans for potential military action in Nigeria, escalating his claims that the Nigerian government is not doing enough to curb the persecution of Christians in the country. President Bola Tinubu has carried out a sweeping overhaul of Nigeria’s military leadership, weeks after a planned coup attempt was thwarted and several suspects arrested. In a move that surprised many Nigerians, Tinubu dismissed the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa , and appointed former Chief of Army Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede , as his replacement. Nigerian Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka on Tuesday disclosed that the United States has revoked his visa, effectively barring him from entering the country for the time being. Speaking during a media session at Kongi’s Harvest Gallery in Freedom Park, Lagos, Soyinka said he was shocked by the development, stressing that he was unaware of any action that could have triggered the decision. “I felt it necessary to call this conference so those in the United States expecting me for engagements don't waste their time,” he said. “I have no visa; I am banned, obviously, from the United States. YouTube has become the final major social media company to resolve a lawsuit filed by President Donald Trump over his suspension from online platforms.  The other companies involved in similar litigation were Meta and Twitter, now operating as X. As part of the settlement, the Alphabet-owned platform agreed to pay $24.5 million. Of that amount, $22 million will go to the nonprofit Trust for the National Mall, an organization described in court documents as being “dedicated to restoring, preserving, and elevating the National Mall, in support of the construction of the White House State Ballroom.”

The  Nigerian Federal Government has announced that Tax Identification (Tax ID) will become compulsory for all Nigerians involved in banking and allied services from January 1, 2026. The new directive is part of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025, recently signed into law by President Bola Tinubu. Under Part II Section 4 of the Act, all taxable individuals and organizations must register with the relevant tax authority and obtain a Taxpayer Identification Card. The Act further stipulates that every ministry, department, and agency at federal, state, or local levels must also secure a Tax ID. Non-resident individuals or entities supplying taxable goods or services in Nigeria are equally mandated to obtain one. The law empowers tax authorities to issue a Tax ID on behalf of those who fail to apply, or to reject applications if available information warrants such action.
