Anthony Joshua's driver to be prosecuted for crash that killed Joshua's 2 friends

The driver of the vehicle conveying former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua during the fatal crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has been discharged from hospital and may be charged with reckless driving.

“Anthony Joshua’s driver has been discharged from the hospital, and he is currently giving his statement,” the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin said.

An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said the driver of the truck involved in the accident fled the scene immediately and has been declared wanted by authorities.

Joshua, 36, was rushed to Duchess International Hospital in Lagos and is reported to be in stable condition.

However, two members of Joshua's entourage, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, were killed at the scene of the crash.

The boxer’s family earlier expressed concern over their inability to see him following the accident. Speaking to journalists on Tuesday at the family’s residence in Ijokun, Sagamu, Joshua’s uncle, Adedamola Joshua, described the incident as a “rude shock,” adding that the family was not promptly informed. In his words.....

“Sincerely, the news that our son, Anthony Joshua, was involved in a fatal crash came to us as a rude shock,” he said.

“We did not get to hear this terrible news on time until calls started coming in from people seeking confirmation. Anthony comes home three or four times a year, especially during the festive season, and it is usually a time to rejoice with family. This was completely unexpected.”

Eyewitnesses say the incident occurred around 11 a.m. on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, near Danco Filling Station, before the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound lane. The United States has announced a partial suspension of the issuance of certain visas to Nigerian nationals, effective from January 1, 2026, following a new presidential proclamation on border and national security. In a statement issued on Monday, the US Mission in Nigeria said the restriction will take effect at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on January 1, 2026, in line with Presidential Proclamation 10998, titled “Restricting and Limiting the Entry of Foreign Nationals to Protect the Security of the United States.” Nigeria is among 19 countries affected by the measure. Others listed include Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, Cuba, Dominica, Gabon, The Gambia, Malawi, Mauritania, Senegal, Tanzania, Togo, Tonga, Venezuela, Zambia and Zimbabwe. German police have launched an intensive manhunt after one of the largest bank heists in Germany’s recent history, in which thieves drilled into the underground vault of a Sparkasse savings bank in Gelsenkirchen and stole cash, gold and jewellery estimated at about €30 million . The Lagos State Government with the approval of the state Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu has cancelled the 2025 Greater Lagos Fiesta, the annual end-of-year celebration that traditionally ushers residents into the New Year with music, fireworks and large public gatherings. The cancellation was confirmed on Tuesday by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Gboyega Akosile. According to the statement, the decision was taken with the governor’s approval, barely a day before the event was scheduled to hold on December 31. Burkina Faso ’s military government has confirmed the detention of 11 Nigerian military personnel and the seizure of a Nigerian Air Force cargo aircraft that entered the country’s airspace without authorisation before making an emergency landing. In a statement issued late Monday, the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) said the C-130 aircraft was compelled to land on December 8, 2025, in Bobo-Dioulasso following an in-flight emergency.
