Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday granted bail to the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abdulaziz Malami , his wife, and his son. Each defendant was admitted to bail in the sum of ₦500 million, accompanied by stringent conditions intended to ensure their appearance for trial. The court's decision follows Malami’s period in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), where he has been held since December 8. His detention followed a reported failure to satisfy administrative bail terms previously established by the commission. In his ruling, Justice Nwite mandated that each defendant must provide two sureties in like sum. These sureties are required to be owners of landed property within the high-brow Abuja neighborhoods of Asokoro, Maitama, or Gwarinpa. World   renowned boxer Anthony Joshua was involved in a road accident earlier today in Makun, Ogun State. Eyewitnesses say the incident occurred around 11 a.m. on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, near Danco Filling Station, before the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound lane. Joshua was traveling in a Lexus SUV, registration number KRD 850 HN, which reportedly collided with a stationary truck. The Chief Executive Officers of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) , Engr. Farouk Ahmed , and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Gbenga Komolafe , have resigned from their positions. President Bola Tinubu had on Wednesday summoned Ahmed to the Presidential Villa, Abuja, amid allegations of economic sabotage and corruption. In a statement, the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, said the President’s actions followed the resignation of the two chief executives. Ahmed and Komolafe were appointed in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari to head the two regulatory agencies established under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). The Supreme Court has overturned the presidential pardon granted to Abuja housewife, Maryam Sanda , reinstating the death sentence imposed on her for the murder of her husband, Bilyaminu Bello . President Bola Tinubu had earlier commuted Sanda’s sentence to 12 years’ imprisonment on compassionate grounds. However, in a split decision of four to one delivered on Friday, the apex court affirmed the death-by-hanging verdict earlier upheld by the Court of Appeal. The court dismissed Sanda’s appeal in its entirety, ruling that it lacked merit. Delivering the lead judgment, Justice Moore Adumein held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and that the appellate court was right to affirm the trial court’s decision. Justice Adumein further stated that it was improper for the Executive to exercise its power of pardon in a culpable homicide case while an appeal was still pending. Share this story

Bayelsa  state Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo , has died, he was 60 years old. Ewhrudjakpo reportedly slumped in his office earlier on Thursday and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, where he was pronounced dead. His death was announced late Thursday by Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, who also chairs the Southern Governors’ Forum. “I received news of the demise of the deputy governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Mr Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, with deep sorrow. “The incident came as a profound shock to all of us, but we submit to the will of the Almighty God, who has chosen to call him home at this time,” the Ogun governor said. The Federal Government on Thursday asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to impose the death penalty on Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), following his conviction. Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court ruled that Kanu was guilty on one count of the terrorism charges brought against him by the Federal Government. The court held that it was convinced Kanu made a series of broadcasts that incited violence and killings in pursuit of his separatist campaign for a Biafran state. Justice Omotosho said his verdict was based on what he described as “uncontroverted evidence” presented by the prosecution. Share this story
