Nigeria Knocked Out of 2026 World Cup after Penalty Shoot-Out Loss to DR Congo ¡

Nigeria will miss a second consecutive FIFA World Cup after falling to DR Congo in a penalty shootout in the CAF playoff final.

Frank Onyeka gave the Super Eagles an early lead, but Meschack Elia equalised before halftime. Both sides failed to find a winner in a tense second half and 30 minutes of extra time, leaving the match tied 1–1.

DR Congo captain Chancel Mbemba converted the decisive penalty to send his team to the inter-confederation playoff, where they will seek their first World Cup appearance since 1974.

Mbemba had also scored the late winner in Congo’s 1–0 victory over Cameroon in Thursday’s semifinal, and once again emerged as the hero in the final.

Court grants former AGF Malami, Wife & Son 1.5 Billion Naira Bail

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday granted bail to the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abdulaziz Malami , his wife, and his son. Each defendant was admitted to bail in the sum of ₦500 million, accompanied by stringent conditions intended to ensure their appearance for trial. The court's decision follows Malami’s period in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), where he has been held since December 8. His detention followed a reported failure to satisfy administrative bail terms previously established by the commission. The Rivers State House of Assembly has commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Oduh . During Thursday’s plenary, presided over by Speaker Martins Amaewhule and broadcast live on Channels Television, the House Majority Leader, Major Jack, read out a notice of allegations and gross misconduct against the governor. Arsenal and England ace midfielder Declan Rice has been hit with a six-month driving ban after being caught speeding twice on the same road in just one week. The £105million midfielder was first caught doing 37mph in a 30mph zone on January 3 last year. Barely five days later, the 26-year-old was caught again on the same stretch of the A217, hit for doing 49mph in a 40mph limit.
