Nigerian FG declares Public Holidays on December 25th, 26th & January 1st

It also announced Thursday, January 1, 2026, as a public holiday for the New Year celebrations.
The announcement was conveyed in a statement on Monday by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajayi, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
Dr Tunji-Ojo extended Christmas and New Year greetings to Christians in Nigeria and across the world, as well as to all Nigerians. He noted that the festive season provides an opportunity to reflect on the values of love, peace, humility and sacrifice exemplified by the birth of Jesus Christ.
He urged Nigerians, irrespective of religious or ethnic background, to use the period to pray for peace, security and national progress, while supporting the Federal Government’s efforts toward unity and development.
The minister also called on citizens to remain law-abiding and vigilant during the celebrations, and to cooperate with security agencies to ensure a peaceful and safe holiday period. He wished Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
