"I've Ordered the Pentagon to Prepare for Possible Action in Nigeria" - President Donald Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday said he has directed the Pentagon to prepare plans for potential military action in Nigeria, escalating his claims that the Nigerian government is not doing enough to curb the persecution of Christians in the country.




In a post on the social media platform 'Truth'
President Trump wrote:

"If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, 'guns-a-blazing,' to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities," Trump posted on social media. "I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians!"

Trump also warned that the United States “will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria.”

His remarks came a day after he announced the designation of Nigeria as “a country of particular concern” over alleged religious persecution.

Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, swiftly rejected the characterization. In a statement on social media Saturday, Tinubu said describing Nigeria as a nation intolerant of religious freedom does not reflect the country’s reality.

"Religious freedom and tolerance have been a core tenet of our collective identity and shall always remain so," Tinubu said. "Nigeria opposes religious persecution and does not encourage it. Nigeria is a country with constitutional guarantees to protect citizens of all faiths."


The warning came after Nigeria's President Bola Ahmed Tinubu earlier on Saturday pushed back on Trump announcing a day earlier that he was designating the West African country "a country of particular concern" for allegedly failing to stop the persecution of Christians.


Trump's comment came weeks after U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz urged Congress to designate Africa's most populous country as a violator of religious freedom with claims of "Christian mass murder."

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday granted bail to the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abdulaziz Malami , his wife, and his son. Each defendant was admitted to bail in the sum of ₦500 million, accompanied by stringent conditions intended to ensure their appearance for trial. Arsenal and England ace midfielder Declan Rice has been hit with a six-month driving ban after being caught speeding twice on the same road in just one week. The £105million midfielder was first caught doing 37mph in a 30mph zone on January 3 last year. Barely five days later, the 26-year-old was caught again on the same stretch of the A217, hit for doing 49mph in a 40mph limit. The account, dormant since Elon Musk’s $44 billion takeover, now displays a "Rule Violation" notice, though the company has not specified which policy was broken.
