Justice James Omotosho delivered the ruling on Thursday, four years after Kanu was arrested in Kenya and brought back to Nigeria. He was convicted on all seven terrorism-related charges filed by the Federal Government, despite pleading not guilty.

The judgment was delivered in Kanu’s absence after he disrupted proceedings, leading the judge to order security operatives to remove him from the courtroom.

Justice Omotosho held that Kanu’s Radio Biafra broadcasts and sit-at-home orders in the South-East amounted to acts of terrorism, infringed on citizens’ rights, and promoted violence against security personnel.
