BREAKING: Nigerian FG seeks Death Penalty for Nnamdi Kanu following Conviction on Terrorism Charge ¡

The Federal Government on Thursday asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to impose the death penalty on Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), following his conviction.

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court ruled that Kanu was guilty on one count of the terrorism charges brought against him by the Federal Government. The court held that it was convinced Kanu made a series of broadcasts that incited violence and killings in pursuit of his separatist campaign for a Biafran state.

Justice Omotosho said his verdict was based on what he described as “uncontroverted evidence” presented by the prosecution.

The trial of Nigerian internet punter Benjamin Best , popularly known as Killaboi , is set to commence today, Thursday, January 15, 2025. ___________________ RELATED : K!llaboi & Austa: The Billionaire Punter, The Model, and the M8rder That Shook Social Media! ___________________ Mrs. Cordelia Okonye, mother of the late Augusta Onuwabhagbe, confirmed the development in a post on her social media page, stating that the matter would be heard at the High Court, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos. Best is accused of killing 21-year-old Onuwabhagbe, a student of Lead City University, at his residence located at No. 24a Abiola Apooyi Street, Oral Estate in Ajah, Lagos, in July 2023. Eminent Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has alleged medical negligence in the death of her 21-month-old son, Nkanu Nnamdi, who passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.  Adichie’s media team confirmed to ARISE News on Saturday that the author penned a detailed statement of the incident, which was originally shared privately with family and close friends before becoming public. In the statement, Adichie said her son was taken to Euracare Hospital for an MRI scan and the insertion of a central line. A high court has remanded 52 students of Ambrose Alli University (AAU) , following a protest against local insecurity that turned violent in Ekpoma, Edo State. The demonstration was initially organized by residents to decry a recent surge in killings and kidnappings. Arsenal and England ace midfielder Declan Rice has been hit with a six-month driving ban after being caught speeding twice on the same road in just one week. The £105million midfielder was first caught doing 37mph in a 30mph zone on January 3 last year. Barely five days later, the 26-year-old was caught again on the same stretch of the A217, hit for doing 49mph in a 40mph limit. The England international, who did not attend the hearing at Crawley Magistrates Court Tuesday, 01/06/25, he was hit with a £2,185 bill in fines and costs.  The disqualification comes after the new offences took his license to 15 points, way over the total limit. Court grants former AGF Malami, Wife & Son 1.5 Billion Naira Bail

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday granted bail to the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abdulaziz Malami , his wife, and his son. Each defendant was admitted to bail in the sum of ₦500 million, accompanied by stringent conditions intended to ensure their appearance for trial. The court's decision follows Malami’s period in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), where he has been held since December 8. His detention followed a reported failure to satisfy administrative bail terms previously established by the commission. In his ruling, Justice Nwite mandated that each defendant must provide two sureties in like sum.
