Fitness entrepreneur Maje Ayida has opened up about his struggle with depression following his highly publicised divorce from media personality Toke Makinwa.
In a video that went viral earlier this year , Ayida was seen speaking at a church event in the United Kingdom with Pastor Bolaji Idowu, where he recounted the emotional turmoil he faced after the breakdown of the marriage.

He said the intense public scrutiny left him overwhelmed with shame and pushed him into isolation.

Ayida explained that the fallout affected both his personal and professional life, causing him to lose business opportunities and struggle with basic daily tasks.
“I withdrew from society. I was really ashamed of my situation… I went into hiding,” he said.
He revealed that the depression lasted for about a year and was marked by insomnia, paranoia and a loss of motivation.
“I checked out of life for a year to recoup… I was in a very dark space,” he said, noting that even rare outings left him feeling judged, which drove him back into seclusion.
Ayida added that the turning point came when he decided to confront his circumstances and began researching ways to recover, with accountability emerging as a key step.
"I took the blame on myself… It made me feel worse at first until I began to take practical steps,” he said.
Ayida and Makinwa married in 2014, but the union ended in 2016 amid allegations of infidelity.
