I am Ready for Motherhood With or Without Marriage - Mercy Eke Cries Out

Nigerian sperm donors are currently screaming for joy as reality TV star and media personality Mercy Eke says she is ready to become a mother, even if she is not married.

In a recent interview, the former Big Brother Naija winner said she feels fully capable of raising children on her own and is prepared to have up to three children without waiting for marriage.

Eke noted that marriage is not a priority for now, adding that she has yet to meet the right partner. “If I get pregnant now, I'm just going to have my baby,” she said, expressing confidence in navigating motherhood independently.

She also addressed societal perceptions, arguing that stigma around having children outside marriage often targets people with financial difficulties, a situation she says does not apply to her.

Despite her stance, Eke said she remains hopeful about finding the right partner in the future. Her remarks have sparked renewed debate on evolving family norms and shifting views on marriage and parenthood in Nigeria.

Court grants former AGF Malami, Wife & Son 1.5 Billion Naira Bail

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday granted bail to the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abdulaziz Malami , his wife, and his son. Each defendant was admitted to bail in the sum of ₦500 million, accompanied by stringent conditions intended to ensure their appearance for trial. The court's decision follows Malami’s period in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), where he has been held since December 8. His detention followed a reported failure to satisfy administrative bail terms previously established by the commission. In his ruling, Justice Nwite mandated that each defendant must provide two sureties in like sum. These sureties are required to be owners of landed property within the high-brow Abuja neighborhoods of Asokoro, Maitama, or Gwarinpa. The Rivers State House of Assembly has commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Oduh . During Thursday’s plenary, presided over by Speaker Martins Amaewhule and broadcast live on Channels Television, the House Majority Leader, Major Jack, read out a notice of allegations and gross misconduct against the governor. The notice, signed by 26 lawmakers, cited breaches of the Nigerian Constitution. Speaker Amaewhule stated that the notice would be formally served on Governor Fubara within seven days. Deputy Majority Leader Linda Stewart also presented a separate notice of allegations against Deputy Governor Oduh. Both notices were issued pursuant to Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution.
