Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo _____ The Federal Government has declared Thursday, December 25 , and Friday, December 26, 2025 , as public holidays to mark Christmas Day and Boxing Day .  It also announced Thursday, January 1, 2026 , as a public holiday for the New Year celebrations. Nigerian content creator and streamer Carter Efe , whose real name is Oderhohwo Efe , has been suspended from the popular streaming platform Twitch . The suspension comes shortly after Efe emerged as Africa’s most-followed Twitch streamer, a milestone achieved following a high profile livestream featuring Afrobeats star Davido. The Chief Executive Officers of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) , Engr. Farouk Ahmed , and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Gbenga Komolafe , have resigned from their positions. President Bola Tinubu had on Wednesday summoned Ahmed to the Presidential Villa, Abuja, amid allegations of economic sabotage and corruption. The Supreme Court has overturned the presidential pardon granted to Abuja housewife, Maryam Sanda , reinstating the death sentence imposed on her for the murder of her husband, Bilyaminu Bello . President Bola Tinubu had earlier commuted Sanda’s sentence to 12 years’ imprisonment on compassionate grounds. However, in a split decision of four to one delivered on Friday, the apex court affirmed the death-by-hanging verdict earlier upheld by the Court of Appeal. The court dismissed Sanda’s appeal in its entirety, ruling that it lacked merit. Delivering the lead judgment, Justice Moore Adumein held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and that the appellate court was right to affirm the trial court’s decision. Justice Adumein further stated that it was improper for the Executive to exercise its power of pardon in a culpable homicide case while an appeal was still pending. Share this story

Bayelsa  state Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo , has died, he was 60 years old. Ewhrudjakpo reportedly slumped in his office earlier on Thursday and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, where he was pronounced dead. His death was announced late Thursday by Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, who also chairs the Southern Governors’ Forum. “I received news of the demise of the deputy governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Mr Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, with deep sorrow. “The incident came as a profound shock to all of us, but we submit to the will of the Almighty God, who has chosen to call him home at this time,” the Ogun governor said. The federal government on Wednesday arraigned former aviation minister Stella Oduah and her aide, Gloria Odita , before an Abuja High Court over an alleged N2.4 billion fraud. The duo face a five-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining by false pretence and criminal breach of trust. Prosecutors allege they fraudulently obtained N2.47 billion from the Ministry of Aviation in 2014 under the guise of “technical supervision” and “security and logistics support services”, and later misappropriated the funds. Both defendants pleaded not guilty. Their lawyers sought bail on self-recognition, which Justice Hamza Muazu granted, ordering them to submit their travel documents and seek court approval before any trip. The Niger State Government on Monday received 100 schoolchildren who were freed weeks after being abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area. The children, transported in several buses under heavy security, arrived at the Government House in Minna at about 5:20 p.m., where they were formally received by Governor Mohammed Bago, top government officials and their families. Armed men had attacked the remote community on November 21, breaking into the school around 2 a.m. and kidnapping 315 people,303 students and 12 teachers. 50 pupils escaped within the first 24 hours and reunited with their families, leaving 165 victims in captivity before the latest release. Burkina Faso ’s military government has confirmed the detention of 11 Nigerian military personnel and the seizure of a Nigerian Air Force cargo aircraft that entered the country’s airspace without authorisation before making an emergency landing. In a statement issued late Monday, the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) said the C-130 aircraft was compelled to land on December 8, 2025, in Bobo-Dioulasso following an in-flight emergency. The bloc said the aircraft, which belonged to the Nigerian Air Force, had flown over Burkinabe territory without the required clearance. With less than 24 hours to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has formally resigned his membership of the party. Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, had announced on Monday that the primary scheduled for Tuesday would no longer hold due to the deepening factional crisis within the party. He added that Governor Adeleke had withdrawn from seeking the party’s nomination as a result of the internal disagreements. However, a separate letter from the PDP National Secretariat insisted that the primary would proceed as planned on Tuesday at the Atlantic Multipurpose Hall in Osogbo.
