The Lagos State Government with the approval of the state Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu has cancelled the 2025 Greater Lagos Fiesta, the annual end-of-year celebration that traditionally ushers residents into the New Year with music, fireworks and large public gatherings. The cancellation was confirmed on Tuesday by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Gboyega Akosile. According to the statement, the decision was taken with the governor’s approval, barely a day before the event was scheduled to hold on December 31. German police have launched an intensive manhunt after one of the largest bank heists in Germany’s recent history, in which thieves drilled into the underground vault of a Sparkasse savings bank in Gelsenkirchen and stole cash, gold and jewellery estimated at about €30 million . The carefully planned robbery occurred over the Christmas holiday in the Buer district of Gelsenkirchen, western Germany. Investigators believe the suspects took advantage of the prolonged holiday closure to access the vault unnoticed. Police said the gang drilled through a thick concrete wall to enter the basement vault, where they systematically forced open thousands of customer safe deposit boxes and removed valuables worth tens of millions of euros. World   renowned boxer Anthony Joshua was involved in a road accident earlier today in Makun, Ogun State. Eyewitnesses say the incident occurred around 11 a.m. on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, near Danco Filling Station, before the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound lane. The United States has announced a partial suspension of the issuance of certain visas to Nigerian nationals, effective from January 1, 2026, following a new presidential proclamation on border and national security. In a statement issued on Monday, the US Mission in Nigeria said the restriction will take effect at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on January 1, 2026, in line with Presidential Proclamation 10998, titled “Restricting and Limiting the Entry of Foreign Nationals to Protect the Security of the United States.” Nigeria is among 19 countries affected by the measure. The suspension comes shortly after Efe emerged as Africa’s most-followed Twitch streamer, a milestone achieved following a high profile livestream featuring Afrobeats star Davido. A Romanian court has sentenced American rapper Wiz Khalifa to nine months’ imprisonment after he admitted to smoking cannabis on stage during a music festival. The Supreme Court has overturned the presidential pardon granted to Abuja housewife, Maryam Sanda , reinstating the death sentence imposed on her for the murder of her husband, Bilyaminu Bello . President Bola Tinubu had earlier commuted Sanda’s sentence to 12 years’ imprisonment on compassionate grounds. However, in a split decision of four to one delivered on Friday, the apex court affirmed the death-by-hanging verdict earlier upheld by the Court of Appeal. The court dismissed Sanda’s appeal in its entirety, ruling that it lacked merit. Delivering the lead judgment, Justice Moore Adumein held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and that the appellate court was right to affirm the trial court’s decision. Bayelsa  state Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo , has died, he was 60 years old. Ewhrudjakpo reportedly slumped in his office earlier on Thursday and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, where he was pronounced dead. His death was announced late Thursday by Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, who also chairs the Southern Governors’ Forum. “I received news of the demise of the deputy governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Mr Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, with deep sorrow. “The incident came as a profound shock to all of us, but we submit to the will of the Almighty God, who has chosen to call him home at this time,” the Ogun governor said. The federal government on Wednesday arraigned former aviation minister Stella Oduah and her aide, Gloria Odita , before an Abuja High Court over an alleged N2.4 billion fraud. The duo face a five-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining by false pretence and criminal breach of trust. Prosecutors allege they fraudulently obtained N2.47 billion from the Ministry of Aviation in 2014 under the guise of “technical supervision” and “security and logistics support services”, and later misappropriated the funds. Both defendants pleaded not guilty. Their lawyers sought bail on self-recognition, which Justice Hamza Muazu granted, ordering them to submit their travel documents and seek court approval before any trip.
