Dangote Announces $700m Education Investment for Nigerian Students

Aliko Dangote, chairman of the Dangote Group, has announced that his foundation will invest $700 million in Nigerian education over the next decade.

Speaking on Sunday at the 2025 Doha Forum in Qatar, the industrialist said the initiative will support more than 155,000 students across secondary schools and universities nationwide.

During a panel session alongside Bill Gates and Sheikha Al Mayassa, Dangote highlighted the role of innovation, philanthropy and cultural investment in expanding opportunities across Africa. He noted that the funding aims to reduce the number of out-of-school children and equip more young Nigerians with the technical skills needed to drive economic growth. In his words:


“In Africa, we have a population of about 1.4 billion people, so partnership is important,” he said. 
“Partnership also matters, that is why we partnered with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to eradicate polio in Nigeria.


We have a lot of children that are out of school so what we are going to launch next week is a $700 million fund to fund education. 

We will run it for ten years then we review.


We are doing that because we have a lot of challenges in Africa, one of which is training.”

Charlie Javice , the 33-year-old founder of the startup Frank , was sentenced Monday to more than seven years in prison after being convicted of defrauding JPMorgan Chase out of $175 million . JPMorgan Chase bank bought her student loan start-up, but later discovered the numbers were falsified. A Manhattan federal court jury found in March that Javice had grossly inflated the company’s customer numbers, creating fake records that claimed Frank had over 4 million users when the real figure was fewer than 300,000.  Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein, who handed down the sentence, described her actions in the summer of 2021 as “a large fraud” aimed at deceiving the banking giant.
