Jimmy Kimmel Live being Pulled Off-Air Indefinitely by ABC over Charlie Kirk Comments

ABC is taking Jimmy Kimmel's late night show off the air indefinitely amid controversy over his comments about Charlie Kirk's alleged killer Tyler Robinson.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live will be preempted indefinitely,” an ABC spokesperson said in a statement to media outlets.

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said in his monologue Monday. 

Kirk, a conservative political activist, was shot and killed Sept. 10 during an event on the Utah Valley University campus. The suspected shooter, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was arrested Friday. 

ABC's move comes after the Federal Communications Commission chairman threatened to "take action" against Disney and ABC over Kimmel's comments. 

One of the biggest owners of TV stations in the U.S., Nexstar Media, had said earlier Wednesday that it would pre-empt airings of the show "for the foreseeable future" because it "strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk." 

Nexstar, which owns more than 30 ABC 
affiliates, is seeking regulatory approval for a deal to acquire TEGNA, the parent company of this station.

FCC chair Brendan Carr said the comments were "the sickest conduct possible" during an interview Wednesday with right-wing podcaster Benny Johnson, suggesting the FCC could pull ABC's broadcast license. 

There was no immediate comment from Kimmel, whose contract is up in May 2026. 
An audience was lined up outside the theater where “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” tapes when they were told Wednesday’s show was canceled.

“We were just about to walk in interestingly enough, they waited to pull the plug on this right as the studio audience was about to walk in,” Tommy Williams, a would-be audience member from Jacksonville, Florida, told The Associated Press outside the theater. “They didn’t tell us what had happened. They just said that the show was canceled.”

World   renowned boxer Anthony Joshua was involved in a road accident earlier today in Makun, Ogun State. Eyewitnesses say the incident occurred around 11 a.m. on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, near Danco Filling Station, before the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound lane. Joshua was traveling in a Lexus SUV, registration number KRD 850 HN, which reportedly collided with a stationary truck. USA Announces Visa Suspension for Nigerians, Effective January 1, 2026

The United States has announced a partial suspension of the issuance of certain visas to Nigerian nationals, effective from January 1, 2026, following a new presidential proclamation on border and national security. In a statement issued on Monday, the US Mission in Nigeria said the restriction will take effect at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on January 1, 2026, in line with Presidential Proclamation 10998, titled “Restricting and Limiting the Entry of Foreign Nationals to Protect the Security of the United States.” Nigeria is among 19 countries affected by the measure. Others listed include Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, Cuba, Dominica, Gabon, The Gambia, Malawi, Mauritania, Senegal, Tanzania, Togo, Tonga, Venezuela, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Godiya Akwashiki , Nigerian Senator representing Nasarawa North Senatorial District, has died at the age of 52. A family source confirmed to journalists that the lawmaker passed away on Wednesday at a hospital in India, where he had been receiving treatment for a protracted illness. The family, in a statement, described his passing as a "great loss" to Nasarawa State and the country at large. Prior to being flown abroad, Akwashiki had reportedly been battling health challenges for several months. Born on August 3, 1973, in Angba Iggah, Akwashiki was a seasoned legislator. His political journey began in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, where he served from 2011 to 2019. German police have launched an intensive manhunt after one of the largest bank heists in Germany’s recent history, in which thieves drilled into the underground vault of a Sparkasse savings bank in Gelsenkirchen and stole cash, gold and jewellery estimated at about €30 million . The carefully planned robbery occurred over the Christmas holiday in the Buer district of Gelsenkirchen, western Germany. Investigators believe the suspects took advantage of the prolonged holiday closure to access the vault unnoticed. Police said the gang drilled through a thick concrete wall to enter the basement vault, where they systematically forced open thousands of customer safe deposit boxes and removed valuables worth tens of millions of euros. Burkina Faso ’s military government has confirmed the detention of 11 Nigerian military personnel and the seizure of a Nigerian Air Force cargo aircraft that entered the country’s airspace without authorisation before making an emergency landing. In a statement issued late Monday, the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) said the C-130 aircraft was compelled to land on December 8, 2025, in Bobo-Dioulasso following an in-flight emergency.
