Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour Calls for Civilian Firearm Licensing as Abductions Rise

Former Lagos State governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour popularly known as 'GRV' has raised fresh concerns over rising insecurity across the country, citing recent mass abductions in Kwara, Ogun and Niger states including the kidnapping of 315 students and teachers in Niger.

Speaking on Channels Television, he said growing distrust in the police and military, coupled with recurring attacks that resume once security operatives withdraw, has left many Nigerians feeling powerless.

He also noted that Nigeria’s strict 1959 Firearms Act, which restricts civilian access to only limited categories of non-automatic weapons, continues to divide public opinion between advocates of eased gun laws for self-defence and those who fear such changes could fuel further violence.
