Femi Otedola to Pocket $1.6 Million from FirstHoldCo's Dividends¡

After steering FirstHoldCo, the parent company of Nigeria’s oldest bank, First Bank of Nigeria Limited to record-breaking profits, billionaire mogul and philanthropist Femi Otedola is set to cash in a $1.6 million dividend payout from his stake in the banking powerhouse.

• Femi Otedola is set to pocket a cool $1.6 million in dividends from his 11.8% stake in FirstHoldCo, Nigeria’s oldest banking group.

• The financial giant declared a $15.7 million dividend following a record-breaking 2024 performance, raking in $663.7 million in revenue and $487.5 million in net profit.

• Otedola also bagged an additional $11.2 million from Geregu Power, thanks to the energy company’s stellar 65% revenue surge and profit boom.

Otedola, who doubles as chairman of FirstHoldCo and Geregu Power Plc, holds a combined 11.8% stake in the Lagos-based financial group, cementing his position as one of Nigeria’s most influential business figures.

FirstHoldCo’s impressive dividend announcement caps off a stellar year for the 130-year-old lender. Under Femi Otedola’s leadership, the group shattered records by surpassing $660 million in earnings in 2024, posting strong growth across all major income streams.

The results highlight the transformative impact of Otedola’s tenure, which began with his board appointment in August 2023 and his rise to chairman in January 2024.

Chicago drill rapper Devonsha Collier, known as THF Bayzoo and an associate of Lil Durk, was fatally shot this past weekend in Little Village, Chicago, authorities said. Collier, 35, was struck around 3 p.m. Saturday on the 3100 block of South St. Louis Avenue. Two other men, ages 39 and 42, were also injured. Collier was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and pronounced dead early Sunday. Police have ruled the case a homicide. No suspects were in custody as of Monday. Video allegedly showing the attack surfaced on social media shortly after the shooting. Collier was previously acquitted in a 2009 murder case after being arrested in 2014 at rapper Lil Durk’s Orland Park home. He was found not guilty in 2017. Share this story

Lagos Socialite, Pretty Mike Arrested by NDLEA over Drug Themed Party

" The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has detained popular Lagos socialite and nightclub proprietor, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, known as Pretty Mike, following a raid on his Victoria Island establishment where a suspected drug-themed party was taking place. The operation targeted Proxy Nightclub at 7 Akin Adesola Street in the early hours of Sunday, October 26th. According to an NDLEA statement by its Director, Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the agency had received intelligence about the nature of the event and sent undercover operatives into the venue from 11 pm on Saturday. The gathering was subsequently disrupted around 3 am on Sunday morning, in line with the agency’s Standard Operating Procedures. United States Revokes Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka's Visa

Nigerian Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka on Tuesday disclosed that the United States has revoked his visa, effectively barring him from entering the country for the time being. Speaking during a media session at Kongi’s Harvest Gallery in Freedom Park, Lagos, Soyinka said he was shocked by the development, stressing that he was unaware of any action that could have triggered the decision. “I felt it necessary to call this conference so those in the United States expecting me for engagements don't waste their time,” he said. “I have no visa; I am banned, obviously, from the United States.
