Hakeem Odumosu appointed as Lagos State's new Police Commissioner

Hakeem Odumosu, former commissioner of police in Edo state, has been posted to the Lagos state police command.

Odumosu, a former commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos, is replacing Zubairu Muazu, who has been elevated to the post of an assistant inspector-general of police.

Seven states, including Lagos, Ogun and Kano were affected in the latest movement and redeployment of police commissioners.

Edgal Imohimi, a former police commissioner of Lagos, is now the head of Ogun state police command; while Akpan Nkereuwen is the new police commissioner in Cross River; Kenneth Ebrimson, commissioner of police in Akwa Ibom, and Lawal Jimeta is in charge of Edo police command.

Ahmadu Sani Habu will take charge of Kano as the new commissioner, while Sule Maku Philip is now the new commissioner in Bauchi.

In a statement, Mohammed Adamu, the inspector-general of police, charged the newly posted officers to ensure the consolidation and improvement on the gains of their predecessors in the areas of public safety and crime fighting.

He also directed the new commissioners of police to work with “relevant stakeholders” in adopting aggressive, proactive and community based crime prevention strategies to combat crime in their areas of responsibility.

No. 13 seed Anisimova secured her place in the Wimbledon final in a nail-biting match, defeating world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 on Centre Court. This achievement comes 18 months after Anisimova stepped away from tennis to focus on her mental health after the death of her father and tennis coach. With this victory, Anisimova became the first American to reach the Wimbledon final since Serena Williams in 2019. Preliminary Reports on London Bound Air India Flight 171 that killed 260 people

Fuel to the engines of Air India Flight 171- which crashed killing 260 people in June - was cut off moments after take-off, a preliminary investigation report has found. According to data from the flight recorder, both of the plane's fuel control switches moved from the run to the cut-off position in the space of a second, shortly after take-off. In recovered cockpit voice recordings, the report said one of the pilots can be heard asking "hey did you cut off?" to which the other pilot replied he "did not do so". It is not clear which pilot said what. The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed less than a minute after taking off on 12 June from Ahmedabad airport in western India, killing 260 people, most of them passengers. One British national miraculously survived the crash.
