Speaking during a media session at Kongi’s Harvest Gallery in Freedom Park, Lagos, Soyinka said he was shocked by the development, stressing that he was unaware of any action that could have triggered the decision.
“I felt it necessary to call this conference so those in the United States expecting me for engagements don't waste their time,” he said. “I have no visa; I am banned, obviously, from the United States. And if you want to see me, you know where to find me.”
Soyinka previously held permanent residency in the U.S., but relinquished his green card in 2016 in protest against the election of former President Donald Trump.
