Instagram’s test to hide 'like counts' expands to the US and across the globe starting today {See how your updated Instagram will look like}

By now a lot of you are already conversant  with Instagram's latest move to make user experience better by test running the implementation of the removal of the 'likes count' . The change is being expanded globally starting today.

The company, made the announcement on their official 'twitter' page writing

Starting today, we’re expanding our test of private like counts globally. If you’re in the test, you’ll no longer see the total number of likes and views on photos and videos posted to Feed unless they’re your own.



1. How Do Hidden Likes on Instagram Work?

It’s important to note that likes will not be disappearing altogether – rather, they will just be hidden to followers, but users will still be able to view how many likes they’ve received on a post with just a couple taps.

Here’s what the new “private likes” design looks like when you’re scrolling Instagram:


2. Can you still see how many likes you get on your own Instagram posts?

Yes, you will still be able to see how many likes you’re getting on posts, even if your followers can’t.
But the likes count won’t automatically appear under your post, instead, you will have to tap “others” under your blog post to go through to the total number of likes:




3. Why Instagram is Hiding Likes?

It all comes down to making Instagram a safe and healthy place to spend time online, which is important for everyone’s mental health.

As Instagram CEO Mosseri shared, “the idea is to de-pressurize Instagram”, and make it a space that’s more focused on connections, conversations and community, especially for young people. 

This year Instagram has been taking positive actions to make the platform a safer, more inclusive space.

And with the introduction of private likes for some of Instagram’s 110 million users in the US, it could mark the beginning of a very different Instagram for everyone.

Personally, i think this a great move as a lot of  people do not know the adverse effects of Social Media on Mental Health, but wait, that's just my own opinion.

Chicago drill rapper Devonsha Collier, known as THF Bayzoo and an associate of Lil Durk, was fatally shot this past weekend in Little Village, Chicago, authorities said. Collier, 35, was struck around 3 p.m. Saturday on the 3100 block of South St. Louis Avenue. Two other men, ages 39 and 42, were also injured. Collier was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and pronounced dead early Sunday. Police have ruled the case a homicide. No suspects were in custody as of Monday. Video allegedly showing the attack surfaced on social media shortly after the shooting. Collier was previously acquitted in a 2009 murder case after being arrested in 2014 at rapper Lil Durk’s Orland Park home. He was found not guilty in 2017. Share this story

Lagos Socialite, Pretty Mike Arrested by NDLEA over Drug Themed Party

" The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has detained popular Lagos socialite and nightclub proprietor, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, known as Pretty Mike, following a raid on his Victoria Island establishment where a suspected drug-themed party was taking place. The operation targeted Proxy Nightclub at 7 Akin Adesola Street in the early hours of Sunday, October 26th. According to an NDLEA statement by its Director, Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the agency had received intelligence about the nature of the event and sent undercover operatives into the venue from 11 pm on Saturday. United States Revokes Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka's Visa

Nigerian Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka on Tuesday disclosed that the United States has revoked his visa, effectively barring him from entering the country for the time being. Speaking during a media session at Kongi’s Harvest Gallery in Freedom Park, Lagos, Soyinka said he was shocked by the development, stressing that he was unaware of any action that could have triggered the decision. “I felt it necessary to call this conference so those in the United States expecting me for engagements don't waste their time,” he said. “I have no visa; I am banned, obviously, from the United States.
