Millions of women in the US will lose the constitutional right to abortion, after the Supreme Court overturned its 50-year-old Roe v Wade decision. The judgement paves the way for individual states to ban the procedure. Half are expected to introduce new restrictions or bans. Thirteen have already passed so-called trigger laws to automatically outlaw abortion. President Joe Biden described it as "a tragic error" and urged states to enact laws to allow the procedure. After the Supreme Court ruling, abortion access is expected to be cut off for about 36 million women of reproductive age, according to research from Planned Parenthood, a healthcare organisation that provides abortions.The landmark 1973 Roe v Wade case saw the Supreme Court rule by a vote of seven to two that a woman's right to terminate her pregnancy was protected by the US constitution. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared APC's Biodun Oyebanji the winner of the 2022 Ekiti state governorship election. According to the electoral body, Oyebanji polled a total of 187,057 votes to defeat his two closest challengers, Segun Oni of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) who polled a total of 82 211 and Bisi Kolawole of the People’s Democratic Party who polled a total of 67,457 votes. Out of the 360,753 votes cast, the total valid votes in the election were 351,865. Oyebanji is now set to replace incumbent governor, Kayode Fayemi in October.

Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google and the world’s sixth-richest person, has filed for divorce from his three-year-long wife, becoming the third billionaire to do so in recent years. According to court filings, Brin filed a petition for divorce of his marriage to Nicole Shanahan this month, citing “irreconcilable disagreements.” The couple, who have a three-year-old boy, requested that court documents be sealed in order to keep the specifics of their divorce confidential. The 48-year-old American billionaire has a net worth of $94 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which is mostly derived from his stakes in Google, which he co-founded with Larry Page in 1998 and later merged with Alphabet Inc. The British Government has ordered the immediate closure of the Salvation Proclaimer Ministries Limited, more commonly known as SPAC Nation, belonging to a popular UK-based Nigerian pastor, Tobi Adegboyega, over an alleged £1.9 million fraud. On May 20, 2020, Mr Adegboyega stepped down as Lead Pastor of SPAC Nation and handed it over to Samuel Akokhia and Damy Balogun.   Reports indicate that Investigators interviewed one of the company’s directors, Adedapo Olugbenga Adegboyega, who was also known as Dapo Adegboyega or Pastor Dapo. During the interview, Mr Adegboyega said the church group had over 2,000 members and 200 ordained ministers and pastors but failed to provide any supporting information. Rapper Megan Thee Stallion said she wants Tory Lanez “to go to jail” for allegedly shooting her in 2020. The “WAP” hitmaker, 27, suffered several gunshot wounds to her feet in June 2021 and alleges it was fellow rapper Lanez, 29, who fired the shots. Lanez, who is set to face trial in September allegedly begged Megan to keep quiet about the incident because he was on probation at the time. The “Savage” rapper whose real name is Megan Jovon Ruth Pete said she initially told police she stepped in glass because she feared for both of their lives. “I want him to go to jail. The World Health Organization has scheduled an emergency meeting for next week on the monkeypox outbreak to determine if the virus should be classed as a threat to international health. The agency is also investigating exactly how the disease is spreading. CBS News' Tina Kraus reports the United Nations health agency is now exploring the possibility that monkeypox could be sexually transmitted, after the virus was found in body fluids of patients in Italy and Germany. Catherine Smallwood, the WHO incident manager for monkeypox in Europe, said that among the identified cases on the continent, some "had semen tested for [the] virus and came back positive, so that's something that we're looking at."  The agency has already said the disease — which has infected more than 1,600 people in 35 countries, including the U.S. — is transmitted through close physical contact. Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has emerged as the running mate to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar. Mr. Okowa’s nomination was announced and confirmed by Atiku himself on Thursday at an unveiling event of his running mate held in Abuja. Following the announcement, Okowa will thereafter be screened by a committee already setup for that purpose. Recall that Wike, who has been the foreman in the radar of the PDP heavyweights was speculated to be selected as the vice presidential candidate of the main opposition party, was rumoured to have been selected as Atiku’s running mate. The National Advisory Committee, an ad-hoc panel set up by the Peoples Democratic Party PDP to recommend a suitable running mate for its Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has recommended Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike as running mate. According to the Nation, the verdict was reached on Tuesday June 14. Wike was picked following a voice vote. He polled 16 votes out of 20. Three other governors, Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state, Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state were dropped for the Rivers governor.

A cross-section of men in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has said that the sperm donation business in the country is not lucrative. In separate interviews on Monday in Abuja, they said selling sperm was less profitable in Nigeria when compared to other countries.According to Kalu Ekene, a lawyer, the procedure of donating sperm is stressful, and when compared with the money, it is a waste of time.  “The procedure is ridiculous. I was told I would be paid N150,000 for each donation, but this will be after I have successfully fulfilled all medical requirements,” explained Mr Ekene.  He said donors must undergo medical examinations such as HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and C, sickle cell and some other sexually transmitted diseases before they can sell their sperms.  “The money for the test and check-up was more than what I will be paid,” noted Mr Ekene. “I found it to be a waste of time. The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, sentenced two drug traffickers, Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwane, who were linked to the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP, Abba Kyari, to six years imprisonment. The court, in a judgement that was delivered by trial Justice Emeka Nite, convicted Umeibe and Ezenwanne on counts 5, 6 and 7 of the drug trafficking charge the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, preferred against them. It will be recalled that the duo, who were arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu while attempting to smuggle cocaine into the country, were on March 7 arraigned before the court alongside DCP Kyari and four other police officers- ACP Sunday J. Ubia, Insp. Simon Agirigba, Insp. John Nuhu, and ASP Bawa James.

Binance , the world's biggest cryptocurrency exchange, said that it had temporarily suspended withdrawals on its bitcoin network. It said that bitcoin could still be withdrawn on its other networks.  Bitcoin again plummeted to an all-time low of $23,000 on Monday, June 13, 2022.
